  • 2 current forms of identification (e.g. Driver’s License, Medicare card, etc.)

Optional:

How do I prepare?

I start at the ‘ground floor’ and assume you know nothing about boating or jet ski, so no prior study is necessary. However, if you wish to do some research, go to the Maritime Safety Queensland website and check out the “Boatsafe Workbook” and/or “Ridesmart” for jet ski.

What will be covered in the course?

Each course includes both theoretical and practical training and assessment. But there’s no need to start sweating! I am very patient and with only a small audience you will be able master each element in as many attempts as you need.

Practical training includes preparing, launching, manoeuvring and retrieving a vessel. Practical assessment includes high and low speed skills such as picking up crew overboard, a figure eight and coming alongside a jetty.

The theory element covers all essential topics in accordance with BoatSafe Queensland requirements. Major topics include:

  • Preparing a recreational vessel for operation.
    • Equipment
    • Registration
    • Legislation
  • Operating a recreational vessel in accordance with international and State regulations.
    • Signs, signals & traffic rules
    • Incident reporting
  • Exercising seamanship and basic navigation.
    • Ropes & knots
    • Maps, charts & compasses
    • Tides & weather
